This poster illustration is inspired by the Sarbat Khalsa of the Sikh Nation which concluded on Nov 10, 2015 on the outskirts of the city of Amritsar in Punjab. Sarbat Khalsa is a grand congregation of Sikhs from around the world, a representative gathering that has its roots from the time of the 10th Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Sikhs. The gathering of widely reported 500,000 Sikhs from around the world in their colorful head coverings despite aggresive postering and harrasement from the state security apparatus was a statement in democracy. Although the aftermath certainly will lead to critical analysis of passed resolutions, even amendments in the coming months perhaps, this was a big step in countering the deep political corruption in the current leadership in Punjab.
My two cents: Lets get a woman leader at the helm of a Takht in the near future.
